NIMECHOKA KULIKO SENYE YA POKO

Translation: I am more tired (tireder?) than a whore's cunt.

My body has undergone a lot of overwork. And considering I am the epitome of laziness, even blinking twice instead of once is overwork. Daily for two weeks I have been outside from 7am to 7pm. Field work is what the system calls it, I call it Torture. By the first day my body had been pushed past its limit and it has been working on overdrive ever since. Before I unravel the fortnight's events, I think it would be best to have a short of a theme or topic to talk about instead of blubbering all at once. I think I am going to start with the education aspect of the field work, because that was the main purpose of the field work, apart from of course trying to kill me slowly and painfully.

The Kenyan education system fucking sucks! I reiterate, the Kenyan education system sucks. It has always been known and said but I got to experience all the aspects of this sucky system all at once. Take for instance the fact that I had to waste the first two years of campus taking  math and physics which we all dropped to now seriously pursue the degree that brought us to the university in the first place. Why take it up if we are going to drop it? Some of those units even do not make sense to the course you are pursuing. Where the fuck will I be asked to prove that one is greater than zero (Real Analysis) ? Then in third year, when you 'specialise', you feel like you are taking a crash course because, suddenly there is so much work and so little time.
All I have been doing in school is cramming theories. I have never seen a Van de Graff Generator but I know how it fucking works. Why was I made to know that? How is that applicable to a person doing,  say, Law? I mostly pity Law students. They wasted 12 years doing math, physics, geography, chemistry, biology, homescience, music, agriculture, religious education, and so and so only to get to campus and realise that you only need languages to pursue a bachelors degree in Criminal Law, the other studies was just a waste of time. Ouch.
The 8-4-4 education system is what it is called and as you can see it amounts to nothing.
8 - 4 - 4 = 0
I do not think our system is very practical, just theoretical. I remember back in high school physics where none of the lab euipment was available so we just had to 'read' the practical instead of actually doing it. Suffice it to say, I do not remember what the practical was about. Come campus and it is the same thing. The ratio of students to meter rules (that 1 meter long wooden ruler) is 12:1. Its so much of a hustle that one prefers skipping the practical then copy it later from one of the remaining 11 students. But pretty soon everyone skips it and we have to copy from the previous years' students since the practicals never change over the years.
So when I heard of field work, I never knew what to expect, but as it turned out, that is the best form of learning because it gives you a hands on experience and quite frankly its harder to forget even for me, the nigga with a memory the size of a floppy disk. It felt like I was starting another course, since everything I had learned the last two years were bullcrap. But still the effect of the 8-4-4 system was still deeply instilled in us. Since the system is stupid, it produces people who are stupid. Not stupid because we lack education but stupid because we lack knowlegde. We are so obssessed with reading that we never bother trying to really get what we read. For instance, on the last Saturday as we were in the bus we got lost. On board we had 40 'bright' students, a lecturer with a doctorate , 41 base maps of the area we were in, 8 compasses, 8 GPS gadgets and we still managed to get lost... four times! What the fuck?
I could bitch all day about how the system is out to kill me but that will not help (but it sure is a great way to pass time.) So all we can do now is just move with the flow or get the hell out of this country. The latter is the best but its so damn expensive. You have to bribe this one to get you a passport, bribe this one to get your papers right, bribe this one to bribe the big boss... expensive. So I guess I am stuck here in the meantime as I think of ways to get rich quick. If you have any, do not hesistate to call
