PICKY PICKY PONKEY
This being another academic year, we are again faced with the challenge of choosing units that we will be taking. And just like last year, the methods of deciding are not very career-oriented. What ideally should be happening is, students choose the units that more in sync with the career paths that they want. More in tune with their love and passion. More logical. But that is not what is happening. What most guys seem bent on is taking units that will guarantee an A, regardless of whether or not it will help their careers. The way it works is, despite what units you do, as long as you get first class honors, you can follow any career path. Sounds twisted but it is true, to some point, and students know this so they opt to choose units using other criteria.
Some decided they will not choose any unit that falls on a Monday, just to make their weekends longer. Some decided they wanted to start their weekend early so they opted against those that fall on a Friday. Some avoided the units with lecturers that are known to be either boring or known to fail their class. If you heard that the previous year failed that unit, they ignore it. Some ignored the construction class because the lecturer was a lady and ' she will always be PMSing since she's pregnant and then fail us'. Yeah. That was a logical reason to someone. Some could not decide what to take and took every thing. Damn right. Doing extra units just because you feel like you can perform extraordinarily well in everything. Needless to say, I was not among the ones in the latter group. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I cannot perform extraordinarily well in everything..... actually, that is exactly what I am saying. I just cant take extra units if the ones I already have are drowning me in misery and pain. I am not that sadomasochistic. So what method did I use then?
Well. Being the undecided fuck that I usually am I decided to sample each optional unit and see which one might be interesting (read easy). This plan backfired on me on the first lesson. I enter the class expecting just to have a small chat and maybe the course outline, only to be bombarded by a fully fledged lecture complete with lecture handouts and assignments and presentations and projects. I was given a topic to present on the next week. I could not escape it because she had already written my name down which meant marks had already started being awarded. Shieeeeet. There was no way I was ignoring that unit. Now to choose among 3 more. One the lecturer is boring. The other the lecturer is kinda boring and the third.... I do not even know what it is. I decided that I could not sample them, lest I found myself being forced to do them all. I needed a better way of choosing my units.
So between the boring and kinda boring, which one do I choose? Let's ask the all-knowing Ponky, shall we?
Picky picky Ponnnnkeeeeey. Father had a donnnnnnkeeeeeey. Donkey cried, father cried picky picky Ponnnnkeeeeey . So you are out of the game.
